NEW DELHI: Putting an end to all speculations, the Indian Railways has awarded the contract of manufacturing 120 Vande Bharat trains with sleeper facility to Russian major JSC Metrowagonmash-Mytischi (TMH). The Russian player, which has a joint venture with IVNL, a railway PSU, will manufacture these rakes at Latur.
In a communication to the Russian firm, the railways has said the work order includes the option of increasing the number of trains to 200. The TMH-RVNL which quoted Rs 120 crore price per train is the lowest bidder in the just concluded tendering process.
The railways has also sent a counter offer to the joint venture of Titagarh-BHEL, which had quoted the second lowest price of Rs 140 crore per train, to manufacture 80 such Vande Bharat trains. But to get this work, the JV has to match the price quoted by TMH-RVNL, which means Titagarh-Bhel consortium will need to manufacture these trains at Rs 120 crore per rake.
Sources said both the JVs have accepted the offer and will soon communicate to the railways.
Each Vande Bharat train with sleeper facility will have one First AC, three Second AC and 11 Third AC coaches. The ergonomically designed driver trailer coach at the front and rear side will be a Divyang-friendly facility.
