Continuous infiltration bids an attempt to keep terrorism alive in J&K: DGP | India News

SRINAGAR: Continuous infiltration attempts are being made from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu andKashmir to keep “terrorism alive” in the Union Territory, J&K director general of police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said on Saturday.
Even as terrorism was dying down in J&K, a few infiltration bids from across the LoC have been successful in Rajouri-Poonch and Kupwara sectors, in which some terrorists managed to sneak into Indian territory recently and targeted civilians as well as security forces, said the DGP, adding that operations were underway to track these groups and they would be taken to task very soon.
Recently, six infiltration bids were foiled while on Friday, five terrorists were gunned down along the LoC in Kupwara’s Jamagund area. A huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site, DGP Singh said, adding: “Yesterday (June 16), another such bid was thwarted in Poonch sector where a group of terrorists were pushed back and not allowed to enter this side.”
When asked if the continuous infiltration attempts were a violation of the existing ceasefire pact, the DGP said that while the agreement was being followed in spirit by both sides, there were “some efforts to push in terrorists into this side to keep the pot boiling”.
While speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Jashn-e-Dal event in Srinagar, the DGP said that the people of J&K have rejected violence and for the first time after a long gap, they are reaping the benefits of peace as children are going to school, businesses are thriving uninterrupted, and tourists are arriving in large numbers. “People are roaming around and planning their trips without fear,” he added.
Responding to a query about arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra — slated to begin on July 1 — the DGP said all security arrangements were being put in place to ensure a smooth and peaceful pilgrimage. “We will ensure that every pilgrim goes back with great memories,” he added.
