RAIPUR: The Enforcement Directorate completed its searches on Congress leaders late Monday night, and detained Congress spokesperson R P Singh until morning. Congress MLA Devendra Yadav and his brother were summoned for questioning on Tuesday after which all three were let off.
Alleging “third degree torture and unnecessary harassment” by ED, Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday said that his government will seek justice in Supreme Court. “I had earlier informed central government about the harassment by ED officials. Relatives of victims also raised the issue. But theCentre hasn’t paid any heed, so I have no option but to move court,” Baghel said.
“The rules on probing them (ED) are a grey area, we cannot directly act upon them. We will head for SC because ED has resorted to third-degree torture, it’s pressurising people, keeping them for eight days for questioning without food or water and not letting them sleep. Some have lost sense of hearing, another suffered a paralysis attack. Isn’t it clear that they (ED) are doing it with mala fide intentions to defame Congress and its government? If you (ED) have proof against any wrongdoing, then take action, why torture?” Baghel said. The ED hasn’t issued any statement on Monday’s searches yet.
