Carlos Alcaraz is #1 – and here to stay!

The 20-year-old Spaniard defeated Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, 36, on Sunday (July 16) during a historic men’s finals tennis match at London’s The Championships, commonly known simply as Wimbledon.

The five-hour match went to five sets, 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

Carlos ended Novak’s undefeated 15-consecutive tiebreak streak during the second set and even won an epic 13-deuce 27-minute game in the third set.

This is a huge turn in tennis history as Novak is a seven-time Wimbledon champion and hasn’t lost a match on Centre Court since the 2013 final against Andy Murray. Novak was also gunning for another win to add to his 23 Grand Slam men’s singles titles, the most major titles won by a male player in history.

Carlos, who won his first grand slam title at the 2022 US Open, lost to Novak in the French Open semifinals last month after cramping because of nerves. Sweet revenge!
