Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal has sparked discussions with each audience member holding a unique perspective on the Ranbir Kapoor-led film. While some criticise the film for being excessively misogynistic and violent, others find it to be thoroughly entertaining. Recently, actress Bhumi Pednekar viewed the movie and voiced her thoughts. She expressed that although she does not favour “hyper-masculine films”, she believes that every filmmaker should be allowed the freedom of expression.

In an interview with a leading news portal, Bhumi said that her preferred genre as an audience is not hyper-masculine films and she gets bored while watching them and she likes rom-coms.

Sharing her views on Animal, she said, “I do feel every filmmaker has the right of self-expression but how the audience perceives that self-expression is where it becomes tricky. It is a filmmaker’s prerogative, but as an audience, it is on us also to see where are we leading with our society.”

Regarding Ranbir’s character, Bhumi further added that when she looks at Animal, she looks at a character who is an avatar of toxic masculinity.

She added, “I don’t want my son to become that. I don’t think even the filmmaker is justifying his action anywhere in the film. He is an anti-social element of the society.”
