Beyoncé, through her BeyGOOD foundation, has recently announced an innovative initiative in collaboration with her newly introduced Cécred haircare line, aiming to empower both budding stylists and small-scale beauty enterprises.

The initiative underscores the influential role hairstylists play in enhancing individual expression and creating a unique space for self-presentation via hairstyling. The foundation’s statement on Tuesday, February 20, emphasized their commitment to contributing positively to this vibrant community.

Coinciding with the debut of Beyoncé’s Cécred haircare enterprise on the same day, this venture, labeled the BeyGOOD x Cécred Fund, pledges an annual contribution of $500,000. This fund is dedicated to providing scholarships for cosmetology education and business grants for salons, focusing on cities like Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and Clementon in New Jersey.

The initiative highlights the critical role professional stylists play in maintaining hair health and underscores the significance of supporting the salon industry. A sum of $250,000 is allocated for scholarships to be availed by students enrolled or accepted at select beauty academies across the aforementioned cities.

Eligibility for these scholarships is contingent upon proving financial need, and application details were made available on the BeyGOOD foundation’s website from Tuesday, with the application period concluding on March 20. The recipients are set to be disclosed on April 20.

In parallel, salon owners in these cities can also benefit, with another $250,000 set aside for business grants. Eligibility criteria require applicants to be licensed professionals in the beauty industry, provide evidence of either salon ownership or a leasing agreement, have at least a year’s business experience, and demonstrate financial need.

Grants meant to bolster the small-business sector in the beauty industry will be disseminated five times each year in each city. The application process mirrors that of the scholarships, with the initial round of beneficiaries to be announced on April 20, following a similar schedule throughout the year.

Furthermore, the launch of Beyoncé’s Cécred hair care range introduces eight innovative products designed to cater to a wide array of hair textures, celebrating diversity in hair care solutions. This move not only marks a significant step in the haircare industry but also reinforces Beyoncé’s commitment to fostering growth and resilience within the beauty community.

“The journey of creating Cécred has taken years, and I’m so proud to finally reveal what we’ve been working on. As a Black founder, it was important to me to concentrate on where I saw the greatest need for healthy haircare and to place scientific innovation and product performance above all else,” Beyonce said in a press release.

“We started by prioritizing the needs of textured hair like mine, along with other types and textures that need more moisture and strength. My entire life and career, I’ve worn my hair in so many different ways: natural, flat-ironed, braids, colored, weaves, wigs. I want everyone to have the freedom to express their hair in ways that make them feel good, so I began by creating the essentials for hair and scalp health,” she continued.

“My vision is to be an inclusive force of excellence in the haircare industry while celebrating hair rituals across global cultures and helping dispel hair myths and misconceptions on all sides.”

“I’m not a pop-culture historian really, but I witnessed the O.J. Simpson thing and George Floyd and all these big things, which is really weird to compare this to that, I think, but do you think in a weird way it’s a little bit the same?”
