BENGALURU: For this ‘runaway’ groom, Bengaluru’s notorious traffic came as a blessing in disguise. Vijay George, a reluctant groom, made most of the traffic snarl and gave his bride the slip while their car was stuck in the tech corridor of Mahadevapura on February 15. Even as he got out and ran, the wife gave chase but couldn’t get her hands on him.
The groom, who was allegedly having an affair while employed in Goa, is yet to be traced even after two weeks. “George’s lover was threatening to upload pictures of their private moments on social media. Fearing this exposure he fled,” the bride told police in her complaint filed on March 5.

At least for one person, Bengaluru’s infamous traffic snarls have turned out to be quite a blessing in disguise!
On February 16, a groom ran away from his bride just a day after their wedding when their car was stuck in a traffic jam in the tech corridor of Mahadevapura. A police complaint was filed on March 5 after search for the runaway groom for more than two weeks turned futile. Police said a manhunt was on.

Vijay George (name changed) from Chintamani in Chikkaballapur district was said to be under distress as his former lover was allegedly threatening to go public with videos and photographs of their private moments.
George’s wife, 22, told TOI that soon after their wedding, on February 15, when George told her about being blackmailed by his former lover, she assured him, saying that both she and her parents would stand by him and that he need not worry.
Yet, in spite of the assurance, the day after their wedding, while the couple was returning from a church visit and their vehicle was stuck near Pai Layout for about 10 minutes, George, who was on the front seat, opened the door and ran away. Shocked by this sudden turn of events, his wife too got off the car and tried chasing him down, but couldn’t catch up.

The wife said her spouse used to assist his father in running a manpower agency in Karnataka and Goa. While in Goa, he had an affair with the wife of one of the drivers at the company. The woman, a mother of two, also worked for the same company as a clerk.
Once George’s mother came to know about his affair, George assured her that he would end the relationship, though he continued seeing the woman on the sly. In an attempt to dissuade him from continuing with his affair, George’s family had arranged his wedding elsewhere, his wife said.
“I was informed about this affair even before the marriage, but I agreed to marry him as he had promised to leave her,” George’s wife said, adding: “Fearing this [blackmail], George ran away. He was also showing suicidal tendencies. Hope he is safe and will return soon.”
