Correct Muhurat for Sarasvati Puja

According to Hindu Calendar Panchang, Basant Panchami will be on 14 February 2024, i.e, Wednesday. However, on this day the Panchami Tithi will begin from 2:41 PM on 13th February and end at 12:09 AM on 14th February. That is, you can worship Mata Saraswati anytime before 12:10 AM on 14th February.

Significance of Basant Panchami

Basant Panchami has great spiritual and cultural significance. People celebrate this day whole heartedly. Moreover, this festival marks the arrival of spring which is a season of renewal and blooming.
Primarily, Basant Panchami is dedicated to Maa Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, arts, and wisdom. Devotees offer prayers and seek her blessings for growth in these areas.
This day is also considered as an auspicious day to start new ventures, projects or even move into a new house. The positive energy of spring combined with the blessings of Maa Saraswati brings success and prosperity.

Auspicious Rituals

Across India, Basant Panchami is celebrated by flying colorful kites. Delicious yellow sweets are prepared like kesar halwa and khichdi. People wear yellow colored clothes because this color is associated with Maa Saraswati. Also, the yellow color symbolizes new beginnings and fresh energy. People offer yellow flowers to the idol of Maa Saraswati and seek their blessings. Also, they keep books in front of her too.

Here’s a quick guide to what to do and what to avoid:

DO’s:

Wear yellow clothes, offer yellow flowers like marigold and jasmine and enjoy yellow dishes like kesar halwa and khichdi for an auspicious beginning.
Offer prayers, mantras and bhajans to seek her blessings for knowledge, creativity and learning.
Consider this an auspicious time to start a new venture, project or study.
Donate books, musical instruments, or art materials to students or needy persons.

DON’TS:

Avoid wearing dark colored clothes, rather choose light and vibrant colors. Especially yellow, as dark colors are considered inauspicious on this day.
