Assaulted over cricket match dispute, cop dies – Latest News | India News

NASHIK: A dispute over a match between players of rival cricket teams ended in the killing of a police constable at Chalisgaon in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra, reports Santosh Sonawane.
Subham Agone, a 28-year-old constable attached to Mumbai police, was attacked with swords and cricket stumps by 10 to 12 members of the rival cricket team. Shubham succumbed to his injuries.
Three men have been arrested so far.On a complaint lodged by Anand Agone, a farmer who also was attacked by rival team players, the Chalisgaon city police have registered an FIR against 12 people for offences punishable under IPC, including under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult).
Assistant inspector Sagar Dhikle, investigating the case, said Shubham was in his hometown on Sunday. Dhikle added a cricket match had been organised in Chalisgaon and Shubham was part of the team that won the match. After the match, Shubham was involved in a brawl with rival team members in the afternoon.
Later in the evening, rival team members waylaid Shubham and Anand (the complainant) and attacked them with stumps, swords and other sharp weapons, and fled. Shubham was taken to a hospital, where he was declared “brought dead”, while Anand’s injuries were not serious.
Dhikle said, “Acting on the information available, we have arrested three men. On Monday, the accused were produced before a court which remanded them in seven days’ custody, till Sunday.”
