Arvind Kejriwal moves Delhi HC challenging his arrest, remand order

NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has moved Delhi high court, challenging both his recent arrest and the remand order issued by the trial court on March 22.
According to his legal representatives, the plea filed in the Delhi high court asserts that both the arrest and the subsequent remand order are unlawful. It argues that Kejriwal should be released from custody immediately and has urged for an expedited hearing before the acting Chief Justice, preferably scheduled by Sunday, March 24.
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED in Delhi excise policy case on Thursday night. He was then remanded to custody until March 28 by the Delhi court following his arrest on charges related to corruption in the liquor policy. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, presiding over the proceedings at the Rouse Avenue court, declared that Kejriwal would appear before the court on March 28 at 2 pm.
The court’s decision came in response to an application by the Enforcement Directorate seeking a 10-day custody in the case. During the hearing for remand, the Enforcement Directorate asserted that Kejriwal, who serves as the Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener, played a pivotal role as a “key conspirator” in the excise policy scam case, alongside other ministers and party leaders.
