Ana de Armas Saturday Night Live Skits | Videos

If you thought the “Barbie” trailer was genius, just wait until you see the American Girl doll movie trailer that “Saturday Night Live” cooked up with first time host Ana de Armas. The “Ghosted” star hosted the April 15 episode, which also featured musical guest Karol G. While de Armas kicked off the night with a touching monologue featuring anecdotes about how she learned English from the sitcom “Friends,” and the time Robert De Niro visited her father at work, it was the night’s bevy of surreal sketches that stole the show.

Over the course of the evening, de Armas starred in skits with uncooperative (but adorable) dogs, and played the partner of both a man with a frightening number of nipples (Mikey Day) and the Guinness World Records holder for the longest fingernails (Bowen Yang). But the episode’s funniest sketch was a parody of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” trailer.

In the skit, de Armas’s Josefina is joined by fellow tragic American Girl dolls Kirsten (Heidi Gardner), Kit (Sarah Sherman), Molly (Molly Kearney), Samantha (Chloe Fineman), and Addy (Ego Nwodim) in the new film “American Girls.” The movie’s tagline says it all, really: “People can’t stop talking about the trailer for the new ‘Barbie’ movie, but not all dolls live in a dream house. Some are bigger, younger, sadder . . . some dolls are American Girls!”

Things only get darker from there as Josefina reveals, “That’s OK! My mamá is dead, and we buried her in the church graveyard.” Addy counters with, “That’s OK! I don’t know my birthday because I’m a runaway slave.” Add in sudden death by cholera, a pantaloon fashion show, and some butter churning and you have the makings of a pitch-perfect parody. “SNL” even shared “Barbie”-style posters for each of the girls on Instagram.

Check out the American Girl dolls spoof movie trailer, as well as the rest of de Armas’s “SNL” skits ahead.
