Altmin inks pact with Bolivian YLB for securing Lithium, C-LFP technology knowledge sharing

HYDERABAD: Altmin Private Ltd, a Hyderabad-based battery active materials manufacturer, on Thursday said it has inked a strategic agreement with YLB, the National Strategic Public Company for Bolivian Lithium Deposits, for development of a raw materials supply chain and production of cathode active materials for lithium-ion batteries.
The partnership is aimed at enhancing research, development, and piloting activities for Lithium and establishing a bilateral raw materials supply chain, the Hyderabad-based startup said.
The partnership includes sharing of scientific technology knowledge for manufacturing battery active materials by setting up a pilot plant in La Palca, Potosí using Altmin’s patented C-LFP (carbon coated Lithium Iron Phosphate) technology and sharing of lithium carbonate supplies produced by YLB.
The collaboration, which is touted as the first of its kind in Bolivia, will mark the entry of the South American nation in indigenous Li-Ion battery manufacturing and will also cater to the global energy transition while addressing the lithium requirements for Altmin’s India operations, Altmin said.
A team of experts from YLB visited Altmin’s Hyderabad facility last month for advanced technical and commercial discussions, following which the Bolivian government owned entity invited Altmin to Bolivia to seal the deal.
YLB president Karla Calderón said the deal will enable cooperation for the technological development of active materials for use in Lithium-ion batteries by setting up a pilot plant in Potosi that is expected to roll out this year with a 3 Gigawatt plant envisaged in the near future.
Altmin founder & managing director Mourya Sunkavalli said the alliance will enable Altmin to produce upwards of 10 GWh of LFP by 2030. Altmin recently inaugurated a Megawatt-scale LFP manufacturing plant with ARCI (International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials) for producing Cathode Active Material (CAM).
