The Allahabad High Court, on Wednesday, urged the filmmakers to stay away from all the religious texts and asked them to not make movies about them while hearing petitions seeking a ban on director Om Raut‘s Adipurush, according to a news portal.
A bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Shree Prakash Singh said that filmmakers should not touch the Quran or the Bibleeither.”Please don’t show religions in the wrong light. The court has no religion,” the bench said, adding that filmmakers only want to mint money.
Justice Chauhan further remarked that even a short documentary on the Quran depicting wrong things would have caused a massive stir. The court said that something or the other is being done continuously to disturb social harmony. It further said that the producer of Adipurush will have to appear in the court since this is not a joke. One of the judges said that many people have told him that they could not even watch the entire film because of their beliefs in Lord Ram, Lakshman, Sita and Hanuman and they were hurt by how they were shown in the film.
The court also reprimanded members of the CBFC saying that some great people certified a film where Ramayana has been shown like this. It believed what has been said in the petition that people’s sentiments have been hurt, adding that ‘if we keep quiet today, we know what will happen.’
In the face of online outrage and negative reviews, the makers of Adipurush have revamped the dialogues. It stars Prabhas as Lord Ram, Kriti as Goddess Sita, Sunny Singh as Lakshman, and Saif Ali Khan as Ravana.
