Akhilesh Yadav talks of PDA, not of INDIA, eyes 6 more MP seats | India News

LUCKNOW: The possibility of talks resuming between key INDIA constituents Congress and Samajwadi Party to forge an alliance for the assembly elections in MP diminished further on Sunday after the latter started discussing the names of prospective party candidates for six more seats.
SP and Congress have been trading barbs since Thursday, when ex-MP CM Kamal Nath said the parties’ alliance was at the national level and not applicable to assembly polls.
SP president Akhilesh Yadav posted a cryptic message on X on Sunday, underscoring the importance of “PDA (pichhde, Dalit & alpsankhyak)”, the acronym he coined recently, in the context of the Lok Sabha polls. “Hoga 24 ka chunav, PDA ka inquilab (the 2024 elections will see the rise of PDA),” Akhilesh wrote.
Senior leaders at the SP headquarters in Lucknow approved the MP state unit’s proposal to change a few candidates. The party is likely to announce these names in the next couple of days.
While the SP accused the Congress of not following the coalition dharma, the grand old party dismissed the charge claiming that the opposition bloc had come together for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and not for assembly elections.
So far, SP has announced candidates for 33 of the 230 seats in MP, which goes to polls on November 17. Congress released its first list of 144 candidates on Wednesday and the second one the next evening. The party needs to name its candidate for one more constituency.
SP leaders privy to the developments said the party had already made up its mind to go solo in MP after Congress fielded a candidate for the Bijawer seat, which has a sitting SP MLA.
