MUMBAI: Former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan of the Congress on Monday said rebel NCP leader Ajit Pawar had struck a deal with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah that would make him chief minister by August.
Pawar was sworn-in as the deputy chief minister on Sunday, while eight NCP legislators were inducted as members of the cabinet.
Speaking in Karad, Chavan said his information was that chief minister Eknath Shinde would be disqualified along with 15 Shiv Sena legislators following the application filed by the Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray for anti-party activities. “We expect that as per observations of Supreme Court, the order should come before August 11. If Shinde is disqualified, Ajit Pawar will be sworn-in as the CM. Pawar is a clever politician, he has not joined the Shinde-Fadnavis regime to become the dy CM again,” he said.
