NEW DELHI: Stepping on the gas on its preparations for the Lok Sabha polls, Congress on Saturday set up a publicity committee with AICC treasurer Ajay Maken as its convener and party general secretaries Jairam Ramesh and K C Venugopal among its members. It also constituted the state election committees of Kerala, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Tripura. MP, on the other hand, will have a pradesh election committee as well as a political affairs committee, one headed by the party’s newly minted state president Jitu Patwari and the latter by AICC general secretary in charge Jitendra Singh.
While the 24-member Rajasthan election committee will be lead by state chief Govind Singh Dotasra and will have former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot and Jitendra Singh, among others, the Kerala election committee will be led by PCC K Sudhakaran along with 32 leaders including V D Satheeshan, A K Antony, K C Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala. The 25-member Telangana pradesh election panel is headed by newly appointed chief minister A Revanth Reddy, while the Himachal Pradesh election committee will be chaired by Lok Sabha MP Pratibha Singh and will have chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu as member along with 14 others.
While Congress appointed a 34-member pradesh election committee in MP led by Jitu Patwari, the political affairs committee for MP will be chaired by AICC general secretary in charge Jitendra Singh. While Patwari will be its convener, it will have former CMs Kamal Nath and Divijaya Singh and CLP leader Umang Singhar, among others, as members.
Congress on Saturday also constituted a ‘central war room’ for general elections with Vaibhav Walia heading the communications war room and Sasikanth Senthil S chairing the organisational war room.
