RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Congress and BJP are in the war of words over the issue of corruption and Congress on Wednesday have issued a 34-point list of graft charges against the previous BJP which ruled the state for 15 years.
The issue cropped up at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi an d home minister Amit are visiting the state as part of preparation for next assembly polls. Raising a question for PM Modi, Congress workers have asked when will the central agencies investigate the corruption cases.
BJP leader Ajay Chandrakar swiftly called a press conference and said that a ruling party never issues a list of corruption cases, rather, they order an inquiry into them.
The verbal spat triggered when Congress Media spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla with other Congress leaders claimed that Raman Singh government was involved in one lakh crore corruption including Rs 36000 crore PDS scam, Rs 6000 crore chitfund scam, Rs 4400 excise and they demanded an investigation into it from Prime Minister Modi.
When PM Modi says against corruption, he should order an investigation in the alleged cases of BJP, Shukla said adding, we request PM to probe only six major corruption cases done by Raman Singh and his cabinet assistants who were directly involved in money laundering and falls under the purview of Enforcement Directorate.
He named the corruption charges related to ration cards, chitfund, PDS etc.
BJP leader Chandrakar expressed surprise asking what was Congress sitting on till now and releasing such a list a day before PM is to arrive. “Chief minister should order a probe if he wants. We also have list of corruption done by Congress but we wouldn’t release a list, BJP will order investigation in those cases once it comes to power,” Chandrakar said.
