Aadhaar foolproof, Moody’s wrong: Govt

[ad_1]

NEW DELHI: The government on Monday said there are no gaps in Aadhaar and multiple options for authentication were available, as it sought to trash a report by Moody’s Investor Services.
“The report ignores that biometric submission is also possible through contactless means like face authentication and iris authentication. In addition, the option of mobile OTP is also available in many use cases,” an official statement said. It also said that the Aadhaar data was seeded in MGNREGA database that enabled direct transfer into bank accounts.
The government said that no data breach has been reported with Parliament mandating robust privacy protection mechanisms.
“…the system faces hurdles, including the burden of establishing authorization and concerns about biometric reliability. The system often results in service denials, and the reliability of biometric technologies, especially for manual laborers in hot, humid climates, is questionable,” Moody’s had said, while indicating that Aadhaar suffered from security and privacy vulnerabilities.
