NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address to the media before the start of the Budget session of Parliament on Tuesday, said the whole world had its eyes on India’s 2023 Budget and exuded confidence that an attempt would be made to meet the hopes and aspirations of the people of the country.
“Our finance minister will present one more Budget before the country on Wednesday. In today’s global circumstances, not only India but the entire world is looking at the country’s Budget,” he said, adding, “For the BJP-led NDA government, ‘India first, citizen first’ has been the motto and the same spirit will be the guiding force in the Budget session of Parliament.”
“The Budget will attempt to meet the hopes and aspirations of common citizens, the ray of hope being seen by the world glows brighter — for this, I firmly believe that Nirmala Sitharaman will make all efforts to meet those aspirations,” he said.
“ Credible voices from the world of economy have brought in a positive message, a ray of hope and a beginning of enthusiasm. It is an important event today,” the PM further said.
Modi said that President Droupadi Murmu’s maiden inaugural address to the joint session of both Houses was a matter of pride for the Constitution, and especially for respect for women.
The Budget session will have 27 sittings till April 6 with a month-long recess. The first part will end on February 13. Parliament will resume on March 12 and the second part of the session will conclude on April 6.
Focus is on futuristic sectors: PM
PM Modi also said the Economic Survey presented a comprehensive analysis of India’s growth trajectory, including global optimism towards the nation, and focused on growth in infrastructure, agriculture and industry besides futuristic sectors.
Asserting that India was set to emerge as a global superpower, Union home minister Amit Shah said the survey reaffirmed that a seasoned captain in PM Modi had smoothly navigated the economy through the rocky waters of the pandemic.
“When the world is suffering a slowdown, growth and optimism in all sectors show that India is set to emerge as a global superpower,” he said in his remarks on the survey tabled in Parliament on Tuesday by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
