22 year-old ‘thief’ tied to tree, lynched in Amethi; 6 detained | India News

LUCKNOW: A 22-year-old man was tied to a tree and beaten to death in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi late Monday over suspicion of theft. Police registered a case of murder and launched an investigation.
Amethi SP Elamaran G told TOIthat all the six named accused had been detained and were being questioned.
Initial investigations revealed that the man, Arvind Kumar, had sneaked into the house of one Rajaram in Kotwa village late Monday andwas allegedly caught redhanded while trying to steal valuables. One of the family members who woke up to this raised an alarm, following which Arvind was caught. Some locals, meanwhile, gathered at the spot because of the commotion. Arvind was bound to a tree and assaultedseverely. When he died, the mob fled the scene.
The village chowkidar, Chhotelal, later informed the police and named six persons — Rajaram, Jaikala, Ambrish, Vasudev, Avnish, and Satya Prakash — in the commission of crime. Tiloi circle officer Ajay Kumar Singh said Arvind was prima facie killed because in the past too, he had entered the house of a neighbour and tried to sexually assault women and girls in their house, he said. “We are probing the case from all angles. Some suspects are being questioned,” added the CO.
