204 police personnel chosen for Special Operation Medal

NEW DELHI: Two special operations by the CRPF that helped purge Jharkhand’s Latehar and Lohardaga districts of left-wing extremists between February and September 2022 as well as a nationwide crackdown by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in September 2022 against radical outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) that led to the arrest of over a 100 leaders and cadres of the outfit, were on Tuesday chosen for the Union home minister’s Special Operation Medal for the year 2023.
A total 204 security personnel – including 51 from CRPF, nine from NIA, 14 from Narcotics Control Bureau and 130 personnel from Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, MP, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, West Bengal and Uttarakhand police – have received recognition for four special operations with a high degree of planning and high importance for the security of the country and its citizens. The Union home minister’s Special Operation Medal is conferred on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel‘s birth anniversary in areas such as counter-terrorism, border action, arms control, prevention of narcotics smuggling and rescue operations.
