2 killed in midair plane collision above Nairobi National Park, Kenya police say

NEW DELHI: Two planes collided midair above Nairobi National Park, resulting in the crash of a smaller plane within the park premises and claiming the lives of two individuals, according to police reports on Tuesday.
The larger aircraft involved in the collision was identified as a Dash 8, operated by Safarilink Aviation airline. It was en route to the coastal resort town of Diani with 44 passengers on board, including five crew members.Shortly after takeoff from Wilson Airport, the crew reported a loud bang and, as a precautionary measure, decided to turn back, as reported by the airline.
Tragically, the Dash 8 collided with a single-engine Cessna 172 during the course of its return. The smaller plane was operated by 99 Flying School and had two occupants on board who were engaged in a training session at the time of the accident.
The collision resulted in the smaller plane crashing within the Nairobi National Park, leading to the loss of both lives on board the Cessna 172. The Dash 8, though damaged, managed to safely return to Wilson Airport.
Authorities are currently conducting investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the midair collision.
