VIJAYAWADA: An NRI medical professional, Pemmasani Chandrasekhar has swung into action to contest from Guntur Lok Sabha constituency as TDP nominee. With sitting MP from Guntur and business tycoon Galla Jayadev decided to keep away from politics, TDP decided to field financially strong Chandrasekhar from one of its strongholds. Dr Chandrasekhar was initially tipped to be the candidate from Narasaraopet Lok Sabha constituency. However, party shifted him to Guntur after sitting MP from Narasaraopet Lavu SriKrishna Devarayalu of YSRCP expressing keenness to join party. YSRCP denied ticket to Srikrishna Devarayalu.
Dr Chandrasekhar has been actively organising charity activities besides extending support to TDP for the past decade. After getting green signal from the party bosses Chadnrababu Naidu and Lokesh, Chandrasekhar met Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan and sought his support. Chandra hailed from Burripalem village of Tenali constituency moved to Narasaraopet after his father started his hotel business in the town. He completed his high-school studies in Narasaraopet and completed MBBS from Osmania university as one of the toppers in Eamcet. Subsequently, Dr Chandra moved to USA and completed post-graduation. Faced with struggles in managing the higher education cost, Dr Chandra readied study material to help the next batches of poor students coming from India to pursue higher studies in medicine and distributed it almost free of cost. He was just 25 when he launched his service initiative.
He secured several awards during his PG studies and also served as faculty at prestigious John Hopkins university and served as physician. He launched a non-profit NGO, “You World” to help poor students and started providing guidance and study material to complete licensing examinations. You World is now providing assistance to the students in pharmacy, nursing, law, commerce and accounting wings too. Dr Chandra bagged prestigious “Earnest and Young” award as young entrepreneur in 2020 competing with about 200 top business leaders in USA. He founded Pemmasani foundation through which he had been organising health camps and also supplying drinking water in villages in Guntur and Narasaraopet constituencies.
In fact, Naidu almost finalised Dr Chandra as candidate from Narasaraopet candidate in 2014 elections. He, however, missed the chance after the last-minute entry of veteran leader Rayapati Sambasiva Rao into TDP. He stayed loyal to the party and got his turn to take on the field. “Dr Chandra’s entry will inspire the party leaders and cadres in the constituency,” said veteran leader Mannava Subbarao.
