Sad news for Venus Williams fans.
On Saturday morning (January 7), the organizers of the 2023 Australian Open announced that the 42-year-old seven-time Grand Slam winner was forced to withdraw from the tennis tournament.

Venus had to drop out of the tournament due to an injury.
“Venus Williams has withdrawn from the Australian Open due to an injury sustained at the ASB Classic in New Zealand,” organizers of the Australian Open tweeted.
The organization also announced that Australian player Kim Birrell will be taking Venus‘ wildcard spot in the tournament.
Venus first made her debut in the Australian Open back in 1998 and has competed in the tournament 21 times.
The 2023 Australian Open kicks off on Monday, January 16 at Melbourne Park, and runs through Sunday, January 29.
