NEW DELHI: The BJP and allies are set to retain power in Tripura and Nagaland while Meghalaya could see a fractured mandate, various exit polls predicted on Monday.
Ahead of the counting of votes on March 2, various exit polls gave an edge to Conrad Sangma-led NPP in Meghalaya, which is projected to emerge as the single-largest party.
Here are the predictions for the crucial northeastern states in 2023’s first electoral battles …

Poll of polls: BJP, allies to retain power in Tripura & Nagaland; Meghalaya headed for hung assembly
According to the poll of three exit polls, the BJP is set win the electoral contests in Tripura as well as Nagaland, where it is in alliance with senior partner NDPP.
The BJP and its partner IPFT are expected to win around 32 out of 60 seats in Tripura, which is just above the majority mark of 31, the poll of exit polls shows.
The CPM-led alliance is expected to win just 15 seats in the state while Tipra Motha Party is projected to bag 13 seats.
In Nagaland, the NDPP-BJP alliance is expected to win 42 out of 60 seats while the former ruling party NPF is expected to bag just 6.
Meghalaya is headed for a hung assembly with chief minister Conrad Sangma-led NPP emerging as the single-largest party.
The poll of three exit polls shows that NPP is going to win around 20 out of the 59 seats that went to polls in Meghalaya. Meanwhile, the Congress and BJP are expected to bag six seats apiece.
