BHOPAL: A national-level junior boxer narrowly escaped being killed when a stalker fired at her in a crowded street in Gwalior on Friday evening. Police have caught three suspects, all of them minors.
The 14-year-old girl is said to be a promising boxer for Madhya Pradesh and recently participated in a national championship in Visakhapatnam.
According to the police, she was walking home after her daily practice at Gwalior’s Tarun Puskhar Stadium when three juveniles on a scooter waylaid her near a temple on Jhansi Road. One of them shot at her, but she ducked by reflex and he missed.
The gunshot sparked panic in the busy marketarea. The three took advantage of the shock and sped away before anyone could challenge them. Police were informed and a team arrived immediately.
Based on the information she provided, police identified three suspects, including a neighbour who had been stalking her. All the three accused were rounded up on Saturday and a . 315 countrymade pistol was seized from one of them.
Police said the shooter had been pursuing her for a long time, but she had turned him down saying she wanted to focus on her boxing career and studies. The rejection enraged the juvenile, say police, adding that two of his friends had helped him in the plot. Police have collected CCTV evidence in the case.
