NEW DELHI/BENGALURU: The recent exhortation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi made at the BJP’s national executive to lay emphasis on environment friendly policies has started reflecting in the party’s policy decisions.
Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai termed the state budget presented by him on Friday as “eco-friendly” aiming to reduce hazards on the environment through implementation of various schemes.
“The Eco Budget will help revive green vegetation in hills, increase green cover in areas where green cover has been lost, Kandla forest activities in coastal areas of the state and also shelterbelt management,” Bommai said while explaining the key features of the state budget.
About 3,211 hectares of area will be under shelterbelt management and about 168-km of area under Krishna River catchment area will have green cover. He also detailed plans to plant about 25 lakh saplings in the state in coming days.
Bommai had presented a surplus budget to give a boost to the vision of ‘New Karnataka’, pledging empowerment of women, farmers and weaker sections of the society without compromising on the development aspirations of the state. He presented an over Rs 3 lakh crore budget in the Karnataka assembly. To ensure that farmers of Karnataka rise to the occasion, Bommai presented a slew of proposals for a massive expansion of irrigation and credit facilities for the agrarian community. A sum of Rs 25,000 crore was earmarked for the 30 lakh farmers.
The vision of ‘New Karnataka’ as envisaged by the government stands for world class infrastructure in the state, hand-holding of the weaker sections to help them make the most of the gains from the growth of Karnataka, women empowerment, access to affordable education and health.
