No association with ICCW bravery awards for kids: Government | India News

NEW DELHI: A day after voluntary organisation Indian Council For Child Welfare conferred bravery awards on 56 children, the WCD ministry on Saturday clarified that it has no association with these awards, which have been “wrongly named as national awards in some quarters”.
The “actual” national awards, Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskaar 2023 of WCD ministry, will be conferred on January 23. The ICCW on Friday awarded 56 kids shortlisted since 2020 with ‘National Awards For Bravery’.
In 2019, the Centre had dissociated itself from ICCW and rechristened the national awards for children as Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar. When TOI asked whether the recipients were informed that the ICCW awards were different from the ones given by the central government, Gita Siddhartha, past president and life patron of the organisation, said, “Earlier we used to mention in the invitation that the Prime Minister will be handing out the awards. However, now when we invite, we don’t mention the PM. ”
