NC demands NIA probe into Rajouri killings, shreds govt for providing ‘defunct’ weapons to village defence committees | India News

JAMMU: Demanding that the Dhangri killing probe be handed over to the National Investigation Agency, National Conference (NC) on Monday accused the J&K administration of playing with the lives of the people and said the weapons provided to the village defence committees to fight off terrorists were defunct.
The administration had cracked a cruel joke upon the people by providing useless weaponry to the village defence committees/guards and using such weapons during terror attacks could only be suicidal, observed an NC delegation that visited the victims’ families in Rajouri district on Monday on the directions of party president, Farooq Abdullah.
The delegation, headed by NC’s Jammu chief Rattan Lal Gupta, visited every affected family and expressed grief and sympathy.
Coming down heavily on the government for its failure to protect the people, the team said the IED blast at the killing site next morning was a clear security lapse that led to the death of two minors.
The government could not get away by paying ex gratia and paying lip service, the NC leaders said.
The NC delegation said the ground reality was in sharp contrast to the official narrative and that the people in Dhangri village and neighbouring areas were living under intense fear and worry.
After interacting with the terror-stricken families, the NC leaders assured the locals that the party would make all possible efforts to get their demands fulfilled and raise these issues before the concerned authorities at the earliest.
