Modi: PM Modi inaugurates events to commemorate 200th birth anniversary of Dayanand Saraswati | India News

NEW DELHI: Reiterating his “Sabka sath, sabka vikash, sabka vishwas, sabka prayas” mantra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the policies and efforts of the Indian government to serve poor, backward classes and deprived see no discrimination.
“Uplifting the poor and marginalised has become our government’s the top priority,” said PM Modi, addressing an event to mark the 200th birth anniversary celebrations of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati in New Delhi on Sunday.
The government has organised year-long celebrations to commemorate the 200th birth anniversary of the social reformer and Arya Samaj founder.
The PM said the path shown by Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati instills hope in crores of people at a time when the world is engulfed in violence.
“Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati launched a strong campaign against social discrimination, untouchability and many such distortions, besides becoming a voice for women empowerment in India. Our government is also following his path. Today the daughters of the country are flying Rafale fighter planes.
Born in 1824, Saraswati worked to counter the then prevalent social inequities. Arya Samaj has played a key role in cultural and social awakening of the country by its emphasis on social reforms and education, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement.
The government has been committed to celebrating social reformers and important personalities, especially those whose contributions were not given their due yet on a pan-India scale, it added.
From declaring the birth anniversary of Birsa Muda as the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas to participating in a programme commemorating Aurobindo’s 150th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Modi has been leading such initiatives from the front, the PMO said.
