NEW DELHI: High drama unfolded at IGI Airport on Thursday after Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera was deplaned from a Raipur-bound flight moments before take-off and arrested by Assam cops over his remark on PM Modi, triggering protests by party members on the tarmac. Hours later, the Supreme Court granted interim Khera bail, but deprecated his comments and refused to club the FIRs for now.
Khera was asked to accompany Delhi Police personnel to the terminal building where Assam cops were waiting in the wake of an FIR against him, leading to a serious stand-off with Congress functionaries who sought detention papers. They sat on a protest under the waiting plane, shouting slogans against “Modi Ki Tanashahi”.

Khera was released after a hurriedly constituted SC bench, led by CJI DY Chandrachud, granted him interim bail till Tuesday. Earlier, Khera’s party colleague and counsel A M Singhvi also disapproved of his language against the PM.
FIRs were filed against him after he allegedly mocked PM Modi over the Adani controversy, calling him “Narendra Gautamdas Modi”.
