Hemant government looting state by wagonloads: Union home minister Amit Shah | India News

DUMKA: Jharkhand’s JMM-led mahagathbandhan government is the most corrupt in the country and looting by tractor-loads and wagonloads the mineral-rich state, Union home minister Amit Shah said Saturday at an event to consolidate BJP’s votes in the tribal heartland for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“I don’t have any qualms in saying that this UPA government led by Hemant Soren is the most corrupt in the country. They are not looting the state only by hand, but with tractors and rail wagons (referring to illegal mining),” he said in Deoghar, attending BJP’s Vijay Sankalp Yatra — the party campaign for the general elections.
On second visit to Jharkhand in a month for the yatra, he accused the Soren government of turning a blind eye to Bangladeshis illegally settling in the state and putting its domicile population at risk of losing their homes and livelihood.
“The ongoing Bangladeshi infiltration in the state has drastically damaged its demography. The tribal population has depleted from 39% to 24% and this government has turned a blind eye to it for its vote-bank politics. The Soren government is facilitating infiltration and allowing the grabbing of tribal land and the exploitation of girls and women here,” Shah said.
The Union minister exhorted the crowd at the temple town to vote BJP to office because it will stop the looting and save the tribes-folk.
He also took a swipe at Congress, a partner in the government, saying “funds meant for tribals are being remitted to the Delhi durbar”, referring to the party’s high command.
Shah predicted that BJP will win all 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand because people are tired of the corruption and bad governance. He highlighted the Modi government’s development work in the Santhal Pargana division and appealed to the people to vote for BJP.
He said the previous BJP government in Jharkhand went on to build AIIMS, airports and national highways, among others, but the JMM-led coalition “did nothing for the state”.
“What has the current government done for Jharkhand? Our government is giving every farmer of Jharkhand Rs 6,000 each year. What have you given them, Hemantji? Narendra Modiji has given free gas cylinders to every home in the state, but what has the Soren government done so far?”
Shah offered prayers at the Babadham Baidhyanathdham temple and laid the foundation of a liquid urea plant of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) in the industrial area of Jasidih. He praised IFFCO for the plant, the fifth of its kind in the country, saying it will generate jobs for locals.
The home minister also dwelled on the cybercriminal hub of Jamtara, saying the Modi government is providing all help to the state to check online crimes, but “the Soren government is doing nothing to check them”.
He said crime against women has increased under the current dispensation. “In Sahibganj, the innocent daughter of Jharkhand, Rebika Pahadin, was brutally murdered. Similarly, Dumka’s young daughter Ankita was also brutally killed. Do these heinous crimes have nothing to do with chief minister Hemant Soren? Does he have no responsibility? The innocent girls of our tribal society are being brutally killed, but Soren has remained mum. He should be ashamed,” he said.
The threat of Maoists insurgency has waned over the years because of the Centre’s efforts, he said. “Modiji got rid of Naxalism and extremism in the state. Operation Octopus, Operation Double Bull and Operation Chakrabandha are some of the many in which a large number of Naxalites and extremists surrendered. Several others were eliminated. Jharkhand is peaceful now because of the Modi government’s policies.”
