HC refuses to postpone JEE, to hear plea on 75% criteria | India News



NEW DELHI: Following the representations from candidates to the MoE on Tuesday, the Union education minister decided to include the top 20 percentile of each education board as eligibility. “The 20 percentile criteria will help those candidates who are short of 75% aggregate in their Class XII Boards. Discussions were held and since many of the top 20 percentile candidates in a number of state boards score below 75% marks or 350 marks, the ministry decided that if a candidate is in the top 20 percentile he/ she is eligible,” said a senior ministry official.
The online registration for the JEE (Main) January session will end on January 12. The JEE (Main) dates for the January and April exams were announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on December 15, 2023. The January exams are scheduled between January 24 and 31. As per the JEE (Main) 2023 information bulletin, admission to BE/ BTech / BArch / BPlanning programmes in the NITs, IIITs, and CFT via the central seat allocation board will be based on all India rank with the additional eligibility of at least 75% in aggregate in the Class XII examination conducted by the respective education boards. For the SC/ ST candidates, the qualifying aggregate is 65% in the Class XII board exams. The eligibility criteria was kept in abeyance during the pandemic (2020, 2021 and 2022).
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) urged the NTA to revise the JEE Main 2023 examination dates.A PIL was also filed by activist Anubha Srivastava Sahai at the Bombay high court to defer the entrance test till April 2023 and remove 75% marks requirement for JEE-based engineering admission at government institutions. While the HC on Tuesday refused to postpone the exam, regarding the 75% criteria, the court has decided to consider it on February 21.
