NEW DELHI: Persons with disabilities planning to apply for a Unique Disability ID certification can now opt for their treating hospital located anywhere in the country for an assessment to get a certificate from the medical authority in their resident state, reports Ambika Pandit. The hospital must be on the list of empanelled medical facilities authorised for assessment for UDID certification.
On Friday, a man from Andhra Pradesh being treated for mental health concerns at Nimhans, Bengaluru, became the first to get a UDID certificate from the district authorities in Karnataka, based on the assessment of the hospital.
DEPwD secretary Rajesh Aggarwal said that the move is one of measures being taken to to boost and facilitate many more eligible persons to get UDID certification at hospitals where they are being treated. “We will be writing to the state governments to ensure that the certificates are issued seamlessly through the treating hospitals as per the protocols. ,” he added. According to data available with the DEPwD, about 90. 70 lakh UDID certificates have been issued and more than five lakh applications are pending.
