NEW DELHI: In a bid to escalate its offensive against the Modi government, the opposition is planning a march to the offices of investigative agencies, ED and CBI, over two days to highlight its key concerns led by a demand for probe into the Adani issue.
Sources said opposition MPs belonging to 16 political parties which are coordinating in Parliament, are likely to lead a march to the ED office ahead of the start of the Parliament proceedings on Wednesday morning. The same may be repeated to the CBI office a day later.
Though the opposition is agitating over what it calls is the “misuse of agencies” by the governing BJP to target anti-BJP political parties and leaders, the marchers are likely to demand that the agencies launch a probe into the Adani issue, which flared up after the publication of Hindenburg report.
Sources said the proposal was mooted by Congress MP K C Venugopal at the meeting of the opposition parties on Tuesday morning, held in the office of Congress chief and leader of opposition in RS Mallikarkun Kharge. While there were no reservations on the subject, the non-Congress parties sought clarity on the memorandum to be submitted to the heads of the two agencies. Sources said many parties demanded that they be given a copy of the memorandum in advance so that they can be approved by their party chiefs before signing.
The march will be an escalation on the part of the opposition in the middle of a standoff in Parliament.
