Andaman command chief for CBI probe into graft charges against Military Engineer Services | India News

NEW DELHI: Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) chief Lt General Ajai Singh has asked CBI to probe allegations of rampant corruption in the Military Engineer Services (MES) establishment at Campbell Bay.
The move came after a registered contractor Sunil Gupta uploaded a video on YouTube to allege that seven officials, including a Lt Commander, two other military personnel and three civilians, were regularly taking bribes to clear bills.
The strategically-located Campbell Bay houses naval air station INS Baaz, which is the southernmost airbase of the Indian armed forces that overlooks the crucial Malacca Strait, while also dominating the Six-Degree Channel.
In an unusual move through the Twitter handle of the tri-service ANC, Lt-Gen Singh said in a message to “our islanders” that he had asked the CBI for “an immediate inquiry” into the allegations after viewing the video posted by Gupta.
“I have repeatedly stressed to my command that financial probity is non-negotiable at the ANC… I have directed that all those named (in the video) will remain at their location till the enquiry is completed…While honest persons need have no fear, no dishonest person will be spared,” Lt-Gen Singh said.
